The follo wing sp e cific variat ion from the ordinance i s reque s ted : That the_J?_ortion
of the sign cited as a violation in the City of College Station letter dated 11-3-77
be exempted from the ordinance as concerns it's moving and flashing parts.
This variance is necessary due to the following unique and special conditions .
of the land not found in like dis tricts : Mr Gatti•s specific location in the Northgate
areanecessitates clear visability of the sign as the main business is not visable from
University Drive and is set back more than 200 feet from College Avenue. No Fronta_9!!
on either street exists. MR GATTI'S sign is small as compared to the huge ''MC DONALDS"
sign; therefore, it is essential that a~-.xtlDIX a small portion of the sign is
allowed to flash and move in order tha t it be visable.
This varian_ce is necessary to allow Mr Gatti 's to meet adjacent competion in the
food business.
The following alternatives to the requ ested variance are possible: This sign was
constructed at a cost in exceee of $8,000.00. It is unique in character and design.
Complying with the City of College Station's request to "dismantle and deactivate".
it is not just a matter of throwing a switch. Complete redesign and replacement is
necessary in order to avoid a state of dillapidation in appearance involving the image
ef Mr Gatti 's of College SteHen. Since the sigr1 has been "in place since 19'74 Ulis

facts: This sign was originally designed and constructed to allow both Jacge arrows--
(TO GO) and (NOT TO GO) to flash and move. This portion was deactivated ape year ago.
It is felt that this evidence of good faith demonstrates our efforts to comply insofar
as possilJle with the City's and the public:' s interest.

variance from Ron Smestuen (Ritco , Inc .) at their called
meeting in the Council Room of the College Station City Hall
at 7 :30 p . m. on Tuesday, January 3 , 1978, the nature of the
case being as follows:
The applicant requests a variance to the limitation on spectac-
ular signs within 50 feet of a street in order to continue, in
part a use connnenced in 1974.
Further information is available at the office of the Building
Official of the City of College Station.
