The following specific variation from the ordinance is requested:
I wish to put up a larger sign than allowed by ordinance
at this location.
This variance is necessary due to the following unique and special conditions of
toe land not found in like districts:
The auto parts si~re next door has a billboard that they ·
are using for a de~ached sign. It is so large that it over powers
my small '4ft. x 8ft. sign.

The following alternatives to the requested variance are possible:
This variance will not be contrary to the public interest by virtue of the following
f~ct~: Even though the sign we hope to put up wi 11 be a _,/--
non-conforming sign, I don't think it will be against the
public interest because the entire block is full of signs that
don't conform to the ordinance.

AN ORDINANCE M-1ENDING THE ZONING ORDINANCE NO. 850
'" BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS:
Section 8-D of Ordinance No. 850 is amended to include Article 8-D.9.
Detached Signs.
8-D.9. DETACHED SIGNS: A detached sign, any part of which is nearer to the
curb or pavement edge than . (20) feet, may not have any part higher than (4 1/2)
feet above the top of the curb or pavement centerline, whichever is higher.
Detached signs farther than (20) feet from the curb or pavement edge may not
have any part higher above ground at the sign than (1/2) the distance from the
curb or pavement edge; nor may the area of any detached sign exceed' either 1)
the square of (1/6) the distance in feet from the base of the sign to the
curb or pavement edge or 2) more than one square foot of sign per two feet of
plot frontage on a public street, whichever is greater

'ID WHOM IT MAY CONCERN
The Zoning Board of Adjustment of the City of College Station will
consider a request for a variance to the sign height restrictions,
Ordinance No. 850, in the name of J.P. Watson, 202 E. University
Drive at their regularly scheduled meeting in the Council Room,
Co1lege Station City Hall, 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, the 20th day of
November, 1979. The nature of the case is as follows: Applicant
requests that height restrictions for a detached sign at 202 E.
University Drive •be waived.
