Registered Professional Engineer # State of Texas No. 77689 • WATERLINE ANALYSIS CHIMY'S OF COLLEGE STATION MARCH 2012 Chimy's is located in College Station's Northgate District at the corner of University Drive and the Wellborn Road North ramp. The project will consist of a two story restaurant totaling 3,974 square feet. The overall site layout is provided in Exhibit 1. The updated City of College Station system MikeNET model created for the Chimy's waterline analysis (Mitchell & Morgan — March 2009) was used. In order to determine if this model was calibrated two runs were performed. 1. Run 1 — Average Day Conditions without Chimy's Development (Exhibit 4A/4B) 2. Run 2 — Average Day Conditions without Chimy's Development and Fire Flow at Node 59929 (Exhibit 5A/5B) The results from these runs were compared to a fire flow pressure test performed by City of College Station Utilities. Based on the output it was determine that the model used underestimated pressures measured in the field. As a result the model is considered to be conservative in predicting pressures of modeled water distribution system. A comparison of measured and modeled values can be found in Table 1. Based upon Table 8105.1 of the 2012 International Fire Code (Ex h i bit 8) the required fire flow is 1,750 gpm. Since an approved automatic sprinkler system will bef i nstalled, a reduction of 50 percent is allowed. Although the reduction produces a fire flow of 875 gpm, a minimum of 1,500 gpm is required by the IFC. In addition to a fire flow analysis other scenarios were modeled. The following runs are those performed for this analysis. 3. Run 3 — Peak Day Conditions (Exhibit 6A/6B) 4. Run 4 — Peak Day Conditions and Fire Flow at Node 59929 (Exhibit 7A/7B) It is important to note that where nodes /lines have unusual flow and pressure numbers in the results tables is due to their being disconnected from the model. This was caused when lines were closed within the mode. The results from these runs show that the current waterlines will sufficiently serve the water needs of Chimy's, keeping pressures in the proposed waterlines above 20 psi, and velocities at or below 12 fps.
