The survey was to identify possible asbestos containing materials used in the space and assess those which may become friable during building renovation. This survey was performed by W. Joseph Loftin (DSHS Consultant # 10-5140) on July 20, 2007. The planned renovation area was visually inspected to identify suspect asbestos containing materials. Suspect materials identified and sampled included floor tile and associated mstic, wallboard joint compound and ceiling tile. Representative samples of these materials were collected and submitted to LOFL/N's Houston laboratory (NVLAP #2044, DSHS Lab # 30-0031). Samples were analyzed using Polarized Light Microscopy coupled with dispersion staining in accordance with the US EPA "Method for the Determination of Asbestos in Bulk Samples" (EPA 600/R-93/116, July 1993).. Based upon laboratory analysis, the sampled materials were not determined to be asbestos containing. This survey was conducted in general accordance with the Texas Asbestos Health Protection Rules (TAHPR) and the National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) for the areas being renovated and/or demolished.
