GENERAL CONSTRUCTION NOTES
1. IT SHALL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO VERIFY THE EXACT
LOCATION OF ALL EXISTING UNDERGROUND UTILITIES. FURTHERMORE, THE CONTRACTOR
SHALL CONTACT ALL UTILITY COMPANY REPRESENTATIVES A MINIMUM OF 48 HOURS IN
ADVANCE OF ANY EXCAVATION.

2. ALL CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CURRENT CITY OF COLLEGE
STATION STANDARD DETAILS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR WATER, SEWER, AND STREET
CONSTRUCTION. UNLESS OTHERWISE INDICATED. INSPECTION OF CONSTRUCTION WILL BE
PERFORMED BY THE STAFF OF THE CITY ENGINEER OF COLLEGE STATION.CONTRACTOR
SHALL IMMEDIATELY BRING TO THE ATTENTION OF THE ENGINEER/ARCHITECT ANY AND
ALL AREAS WHERE NON-COMPLIANCE EXIST. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
THE COST OF DEMOLITION, REMOVAL. AND RECONSTRUCTION OF ANY AND ALL ITEMS TO
CITY STANDARDS.
3. IN LIEU OF USING THE CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS INDICATED IN THESE PLANS.
THE CONTRACTOR SHALL OBTAIN WRITTEN APPROVAL FROM THE ENGINEER OR
ARCHITECT FOR ANY SUBSTITUTION.
4. TRENCH SAFETY REQUIREMENTS SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH O.S.H.A. STANDARD
29 CFR PART 1926 SUBPART P. TRENCH EXCAVATION PROTECTION: CONTRACTOR
AND/OR CONTRACTOR'S INDEPENDENTLY RETAINED EMPLOYEE OR STRUCTURAL
DESIGN/GEOTECHNICAL/SAFETY/EQUIPMENT CONSULTANT, SHALL REVIEW THESE
PLANS AND ANY AVAILABLE GEOTECHNICAL INFORMATION AND THE ANTICIPATED
INSTALLATION SITE(S) WITHIN THE PROJECT WORK AREA IN ORDER TO DEVELOP THE
CONTRACTOR'S PLANS TO IMPLEMENT THE PROJECT DESCRIBED IN THE CONTRACT
DOCUMENTS. THE CONTRACTOR'S PLANS SHALL PROVIDE FOR ADEQUATE TRENCH
SAFETY SYSTEMS THAT COMPLY WITH. AT A MINIMUM. O.S.H.A. STANDARDS GOVERNING
THE PRESENCE AND ACTIVITIES OF INDIVIDUALS WORKING IN AND AROUND TRENCH
EXCAVATION AND OTHER INDIVIDUALS IN THE PROJECT AREA. (NOT A SEPARATE
PAY ITEM.)
5. THE CONTRACTOR WILL BE SOLEY RESPONSIBLE FOR CONSTRUCTION STAKING
ON THE PROJECT, LINES. GRADES, AND BENCHMARKS. CUT SHEETS AND RESTAKING
SHALL BE THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR. DETAILED TRANSFERS OF
ELEVATIONS, LINE AND GRADES TO STRUCTURES AND OTHER FEATURES OF THE WORK.
SHALL BE DONE BY THE CONTRACTOR.
6. TRENCHING AND BACKFILLING: THE BACKFILLING OF ALL TRENCHES REQUIRING
'STRUCTURAL FILL SHALL BE PLACED SO AS TO ACHIEVE 95 PERCENT OF THE MAX
DRY DENSITY AS DETERMINED BY ASTM D 698. THE BACKFILLING OF ALL TRENCHES
REQUIRING NON-STRUCTURAL FILL SHALL BE PLACED SO AS TO ACHIEVE 90
PERCENT OF THE MAX DRY DENSITY AS DETERMINED BY ASTM D 698. ALL BACKFILLING
SHALL BE WITHIN OPTIMUM TO 3 PERCENT ABOVE OPTIMUM MOISTURE CONTENT.
OWNER SHALL EMPLOY QUALIFIED PERSONNELTO VERIFY THESE STANDARDS. CONTRACOR
SHALL BEAR THE EXPENSE OF ANY AND ALL FAILED TESTS. TRENCHES SHALL BE TESTED
AT 100 FOOT INTERVALS.
7. IN SUCH CASES WHERE INTERRUPTION TO TRAFFIC MAY BE NECESSARY DUE TO
CONSTRUCTION ACROSS A ROADWAY, CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE THE APPROPRIATE
TRAFFIC WARNING SIGNS AND MARKINGS IN ACCORDANCE WITH TMUTCD, AND SHALL
NOTIFY BOTH THE OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE AND ENGINEER. A MINIMUM OF 48 HOURS
IN ADVANCE OF ANY ROAD CLOSURES OR DETOURS.
8. CONCRETE THRUST BLOCKING (MIN. 2000 PSI CONCRETE) SHALL BE PROVIDED ON
WATER PIPE FITTINGS AND GATE VALVES AS DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER. (NOT
A SEPARATE PAY ITEM) ALL THRUST BLOCKING SHALL PROVIDE A MINIMUM OF 4
SQUARE FEET OF BEARING AREA bF CONCRETE ON UNDISTURBED SOIL. OR AS DIRECTED
BY THE CITY ENGINEER.
9. CONTRACTOR SHALL ENSURE AND TAKE THE NECESSARY MEASURES TO PROVIDE
CONTINOUS AND ADEQUATE DRAINAGE FOR NORMAL FLOW AND RAINFALL EVENTS THROUGH
THE SITE DURING ALL PHASES OF CONSTRUCTION. SUCH MEASURES SHALL NOT IMPEDE,
OBSTRUCT. RESTRICT. OR REDIRECT FLOWS SUCH THAT ADJACENT PROPERTIES
UPSTREAM, DOWNSTREAM. OR WITHIN THE PROJECT SITE ARE ADVERSELY AFFECTED.
10. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CONTAIN ALL SEDIMENT FROM THE CONSTRUCTION
ACTIVITIES ON -SITE. EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION CONTROL MEASURES SHALL BE
FOLLOWED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE DRAINAGE POLICY AND DESIGN STANDARDS FOR
THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE
MAINTENANCE OF EROSION CONTROL MEASURES DURING THE ENTIRE CONSTRUCTION
PROCESS INCLUDING REPLACEMENT OF FAILING MEASURES AND INSTALLATION OF
ADDITIONAL.MEASURES NECESSARY DURING RAINFALL EVENTS.
11. ALL AREAS WHERE SOIL IS DISTURBED BY CONSTRUCTION. SHALL BE SEEDED IN
ACCORDANCE WITH THE SPECIFICATIONS. SOD SHALL BE PLACED IN AREAS
DESIGNATED BY THE ENGINEER AND IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE SPECIFICATIONS.
CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE WATERING/DE-WATERING OF ALL SEEDED
AND/OR SODDED AREAS. UNTIL SUFFICIENT VEGETATION HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED.
PAYMENT FOR SEEDED AND/OR SODDED AREAS SHALL BE WITHHELD UNTIL SUCH TIME
SUFFICIENT VEGETATION HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED.
12. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO COMPLY WITH ALL STATE
AND FEDERAL REGULATIONS REGARDING CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES NEAR ENERGIZED
OVERHEAD POWER LINES. CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE WITH THE CITY REGARDING
TEMPORARY STABILIZATION OF POLES DURING CONSTRUCTION.
13. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR RESTORING TO ITS ORIGINAL, OR
BETTER CONDITION ANY DAMAGES TO ITEMS LOCATED IN AND AROUND THE PROJECT
SITE INCLUDING EXISTING FENCES. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE
REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT OF ANY CURBS, SIDEWALKS. CONCRETE DRIVES. PAVEMENT,
ETC., DISTURBED OR DAMAGED DURING CONSTRUCTION (NOT A SEPARATE PAY ITEM.)
14. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR LIMITING PUBLIC ACCESS TO THE
CONSTRUCTION SITE DURING THE ENTIRE CONSTRUCTION PERIOD, INCLUDING NON-
WORKING HOURS AND WEEKENDS. IT SHALL BE THE CONTRACTOR'S RESPONSIBILITY TO
MAINTAIN FENCING, BARRICADES, LIGHTS. ETC., USED FOR SUCH PURPOSES. SUCH
ITEMS ARE INCIDENTAL TO THE WORK (NOT A SEPARATE PAY ITEM) AND CONTRACTOR
SHALL NOT BE REIMBURSED FOR THE COST OF REPLACEMENT OF THESE ITEMS SHOULD
DAMAGE, THEFT, ETC., OCCUR.
15. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR CONSTRUCTING CURBS. CURB RAMPS.
SIDEWALKS. SIDEWALK RAMPS. HANDICAP RAMPS, HANDICAP ACCIESSIBLE ROUTES,
STRUCTURES PROTRUDING THROUGH CONCRETE. INGRESS, EGRESS, PAVING, DRAINAGE
OR UTILITY STRUCTURES, ETC. IN ACCORADANCE WITH THE TEXAS ACCESSIBILITY
STANDARDS -ARTICLE 9102. TEXAS CIVIL STATUTES. CONTRACTOR SHALL IMMEDIATELY
BRING TO THE ATTENTION OF THE ENGINEER/ARCHITECT ANY AND ALL AREAS NOT IN
ACCORDANCE WITH ADA STANDARDS. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE SOLEY RESPONSIBLE FOR
THE DEMOLITION. REMOVAL. AND RECONSTRUCTION OF ANY AREAS IN NONCOMPLIANCE.

All public infrastructure for this project shall be
constructed in conformence with the City of College
Station's Standard Specifications. No deviations
from these standards have been requested by the
Design Engineer or approved by the City. All
requests for substitutions Wii be made in writing to
the City Engineer by the Design Engineer of record.
Written approval for all deviations must be secured
from the City Engineer prior to construction.

(5) WHERE THE NINE FOOT SEPARATION DISTANCE CANNOT BE ACHIEVED, THE FOLLOWING
CRITERIA SHALL APPLY.
(A)NEW WATERLINE INSTALLATION --PARALLEL LINES.
(I) WHERE A NEW POTABLE WATERLINE PARALLELS AN EXISTING, NON -PRESSURE OR PRESSURE
RATED WASTEWATER LINE/FORCE MAIN AND THE REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER IS
ABLE TO DETERMINE THAT THE EXISTING LINE IS NOT LEAKING, THE NEW POTABLE WATERLINE
SHALL BE LOCATED AT LEAST TWO FEET ABOVE THE EXISTING LINE, MEASURED VERTICALLY,
AND AT LEAST FOUR FEET AWAY. MEASURED HORIZONTALLY..FROM THE EXISTING LINE.
EVERY EFFORT SHALL BE EXERTED NOT TO DISTURB THE BEDDING AND BACKFILL OF THE
EXISTING WASTEWATER LINE.
(II) WHERE A NEW POTABLE WATERLINE PARALLELS AN EXISTING PRESSURE RATED
WASTEWATER LINE AND IT CANNOT BE DETERMINED BY THE REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL
ENGINEER IF THE EXISTING LINE IS LEAKING, THE EXISTING WASTEWATER LINE SHALL BE
REPLACED WITH A 150 PSI PRESSURE RATED PIPE. THE NEW POTABLE WATERLINE SHALL BE
LOCATED AT LEAST TWO FEET ABOVE THE NEW WASTEWATER LINE. MEASURED VERTICALLY.
AND AT LEAST FOUR FEET AWAY, MEASURED HORIZONTALLY, FROM THE -REPLACED
WASTEWATER LINE.
(III) WHERE A NEW POTABLE WATERLINE PARALLELS A NEW WASTEWATER LINE/FORCE MAIN.
THE WASTEWATER LINE SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED OF 150 PSI PRESSURE RATED PIPE. THE NEW
POTABLE WATERLINE SHALL LOCATED AT LEAST TWO FEET ABOVE THE WASTEWATER LINE, j
MEASURED VERTICALLY. AND AT LEAST FOUR FEET AWAY, MEASURED HORIZONTALLY. FROM
THE WASTEWATER LINE.
(B) NEW WATERLINE INSTALLATION --CROSSING LINES.
(I) WHERE A NEW POTABLE WATERLINE CROSSES AN EXISTING, NON -PRESSURE RATED
WASTEWATER LINE, ONE SEGMENT OF THE WATERLINE PIPE SHALL BE CENTERED OVER THE
WASTEWATER LINE SUCH THAT THE JOINTS OF THE WATERLINE PIPE ARE EQUIDISTANT AND AT
LEAST NINE FEET HORIZONTALLY FROM THE CENTERLINE OF THE WASTEWATER LINE. THE
POTABLE WATERLINE SHALL BE AT LEAST TWO FEET ABOVE THE WASTEWATER LINE.
WHENEVER POSSIBLE, THE CROSSING SHALL BE CENTERED BETWEEN THE JOINTS OF THE
WASTEWATER LINE. IF THE EXISTING WASTEWATER LINE IS DISTURBED OR SHOWS SIGNS OF
LEAKING. IT SHALL BE REPLACED FOR AT LEAST NINE FEET IN BOTH DIRECTIONS (18 FEET
TOTAL) WITH 150 PSI PRESSURE RATED PIPE.
(II) WHERE A NEW POTABLE WATERLINE CROSSES AN EXISTING. PRESSURE RATED
WASTEWATER LINE. ONE SEGMENT OF THE WATERLINE PIPE SHALL BE CENTERED OVER THE
WASTEWATER LINE SUCH THAT THE JOINTS OF THE WATERLINE PIPE ARE EQUIDISTANT AND AT
LEAST NINE FEET HORIZONTALLY FROM THE CENTERLINE OF THE WASTEWATER LINE. THE
POTABLE WATERLINE SHALL BE AT LEAST SIX INCHES ABOVE THE WASTEWATER LINE.
WHENEVER POSSIBLE, THE CROSSING SHALL BE CENTERED BETWEEN THE JOINTS OF THE
WASTEWATER LINE. IF THE EXISTING WASTEWATER LINE SHOWS SIGNS OF LEAKING. IT SHALL
BE REPLACED FOR AT LEAST NINE FEET IN BOTH DIRECTIONS (18 FEET TOTAL) WITH 150 PSI
PRESSURE RATED PIPE.
(III) WHERE A NEW POTABLE WATERLINE CROSSES A NEW, NON -PRESSURE RATED WASTEWATER
LINE AND THE STANDARD PIPE SEGMENT LENGTH OF THE WASTEWATER LINE IS AT LEAST 18
FEET. ONE SEGMENT OF THE WATERLINE PIPE SHALL BE CENTERED OVER THE WASTEWATER
LINE SUCH THAT THE JOINTS OF THE WATERLINE PIPE ARE EQUIDISTANT AND AT LEAST NINE
FEET HORIZONTALLY FROM THE CENTERLINE OF THE WASTEWATER LINE. THE POTABLE
WATERLINE SHALL BE AT LEAST TWO FEET ABOVE THE WASTEWATER LINE. WHENEVER
POSSIBLE. THE -CROSSING SHALL BE CENTERED BETWEEN THE JOINTS OF THE WASTEWATER
LINE. THE WASTEWATER PIPE SHALL HAVE A MINIMUM PIPE STIFFNESS OF 115 PSI AT 5.0%
DEFLECTION. THE WASTEWATER LINE SHALL BE EMBEDDED IN CEMENT STABILIZED SAND (SEE
CLAUSE (VI) OF THIS SUBPARAGRAPH) FOR THE TOTAL LENGTH OF ONE PIPE SEGMENT PLUS 12
INCHES BEYOND THE JOINT ON EACH END.
(IV) WHERE A NEW POTABLE WATERLINE CROSSES A NEW. NON-PRESSURE'RATED WASTEWA1ER
LINE AND A STANDARD LENGTH OF THE WASTEWATER PIPE IS LESS THAN,,.18 FEET IN'LENGTH,
THE POTABLE WATER PIPE SEGMENT SHALL BE CENTERED OVER THE WASTEWATER LINE. THE
MATERIALS AND METHOD OF INSTALLATION SHALL CONFORM WITH ONE OF THE FOLLOWING
OPTIONS:
(1) WITHIN NINE FEET HORIZONTALLY OF EITHER SIDE OF THE WATERLINE, THE WASTEWATER
PIPE AND JOINTS SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED WITH PIPE MATERIAL HAVING A MINIMUM PRESSURE
RATING OF 150 PSI. AN ABSOLUTE MINIMUM VERTICAL SEPARATION DISTANCE OF TWO FEET
SHALL BE PROVIDED. THE WASTEWATER LINE SHALL BE LOCATED .BELOW THE WATERLINE.
(II) ALL SECTIONS OF WASTEWATER LINE WITHIN NINE FEET HORIZONTALLY OF THE
WATERLINE SHALL BE ENCASED IN AN 18 FOOT (OR LONGER) SECTION OF PIPE. FLEXIBLE
ENCASING PIPE SHALL HAVE A MINIMUM PIPE STIFFNESS OF 115 PSI AT 5.0% DEFLECTION. THE
ENCASING PIPE SHALL BE CENTERED ON THE WATERLINE AND SHALL BE AT LEAST TWO
NOMINAL PIPE DIAMETERS LARGER THAN THE WASTEWATER LINE. THE SPACE AROUND THE
CARRIER PIPE SHALL BE SUPPORTED AT FIVE FOOT (OR LESS) INTERVALS WITH SPACERS OR BE
FILLED TO THE SPRINGLIKE WITH WASHED SAND. EACH END OF THE CASING SHALL BE SEALED
WITH WATER TIGHT NON -SHRINK CEMENT GROUT OR A MANUFACTURED WATER TIGHT SEAL.
AN ABSOLUTE MINIMUM SEPARATION DISTANCE OF SIX INCHES BETWEEN THE ENCASEMENT
PIPE AND THE WATERLINE SHALL BE PROVIDED. THE WASTEWATER LINE SHALL BE LOCATED
BELOW THE WATERLINE.
(III) WHEN A NEW WATERLINE CROSSES UNDER A WASTEWATER LINE, THE WATERLINE WILL BE
ENCASED AS DESCRIBED FOR WASTEWATER LINES IN SECTION (II) ABOVE OR CONSTRUCTED OF
DUCTILE IRON OR STEEL PIPE WITH MECHANICAL OR WELDED JOINTS AS APPROPRIATE. AN
ABSOLUTE MINIMUM SEPARATION DISTANCE OF ONE FOOT BETWEEN THE WATER LINE AND THE
WASTEWATER LINE SHALL BE PROVIDED. BOTH THE WATERLINE AND WASTEWATER LINE. MUST
PASS A PRESSURE AND LEAKAGE TEST AS SPECIFIED IN AWWA C600 STANDARDS.
(V) WHERE A NEW POTABLE WATERLINE CROSSES A NEW. PRESSURE RATED WASTEWATER LINE.
ONE SEGMENT OF THE WATERLINE PIPE SHALL BE CENTERED OVER THE WASTEWATER LINE
SUCH THAT THE JOINTS OF THE WATERLINE PIPE ARE EQUIDISTANT AND AT LEAST NINE FEET
HORIZONTALLY FROM THE CENTERLINE OF THE WASTEWATER LINE. THE POTABLE WATERLINE
SHALL BE AT LEAST SIX INCHES ABOVE THE WASTEWATER LINE. WHENEVER POSSIBLE, THE
CROSSING SHOULD BE CENTERED BETWEEN THE JOINTS OF THE WASTEWATER LINE. THE
WASTEWATER PIPE SHALL HAVE A MINIMUM PRESSURE RATING OF 150 PSI. THE WASTEWATER
LINE SHALL BE EMBEDDED IN CEMENT STABILIZED SAND FOR THE TOTAL LENGTH OF ONE PIPE
SEGMENT PLUS 12 INCHES BEYOND THE JOINT ON EACH END.
(VI) WHERE CEMENT STABILIZED SAND BEDDING IS REQUIRED, THE CEMENT STABILIZED SAND
SHALL HAVE A MINIMUM OF 10% CEMENT PER CUBIC YARD OF CEMENT STABILIZED SAND
MIXTURE, BASED ON LOOSE DRY WEIGHT VOLUME (AT LEAST 2.5 BAGS OF CEMENT PER CUBIC
YARD OF MIXTURE). THE CEMENT STABILIZED SAND BEDDING SHALL BE A MINIMUM OF SIX
INCHES ABOVE AND FOUR INCHES BELOW THE SEWER PIPE. THE USE OF BROWN COLORING IN
CEMENT STABILIZED SAND FOR WASTEWATER LINE BEDDING IS RECOMMENDED FOR THE
IDENTIFICATION OF WASTEWATER FORCE MAINS DURING FUTURE CONSTRUCTION.
(6) WATERLINE AND MANHOLE SEPARATION. THE SEPARATION DISTANCE FROM A POTABLE
WATERLINE TO A MANHOLE SHALL BE A MINIMUM OF NINE FEET. WHERE THE NINE FOOT
SEPARATION DISTANCE CANNOT BE ACHIEVED, THE POTABLE WATERLINE SHALL BE ENCASED
IN A JOINT OF 150 PSI PRESSURE CLASS PIPE AT LEAST 18 FEET LONG AND TWO NOMINAL SIZES
LARGER THAN THE NEW CONVEYANCE. THE SPACE AROUND THE CARRIER PIPE SHALL BE
SUPPORTED AT FIVE FEET INTERVALS WITH SPACERS OR BE FILLED TO THE SPRING LINE WITH
WASHED SAND. THE ENCASEMENT PIPE SHALL BE CENTERED ON THE CROSSING AND BOTH ENDS
SEALED WITH CEMENT GROUT OR MANUFACTURED SEAL.
(7) LOCATION OF FIRE HYDRANTS. FIRE HYDRANTS SHALL NOT BE INSTALLED WITHIN NINE FEET
VERTICALLY OR HORIZONTALLY OF ANY SANITARY SEWER LINE REGARDLESS OF
CONSTRUCTION.

1. STEEL POSTS WHICH SUPPORT THE SILT FENCE SHALL /BE INSTALLED ON A SLIGHT ANGLE
TOWARD THE ANTICIPATED RUNOFF SOURCE. POST MUST BE EMBEDDED A MINIMUM OF ONE
FOOT.
2•THE TOE OF THE SILT FENCE SHALL BE TRENCHED IN WITH A SPADE OR MECHANICAL
TRENCHER. SO THAT THE DOWNSLOPE FACE OF THE TRENCH IS FLAT AND PERPENDICULAR
TO THE LINE OF FLOW. WHERE FENCE CAN NOT BE TRENCHED IN (E.G. PAVEMENT)
WEIGHT FABRIC FLAP WITH WASHED GRAVEL ON UPHILL SIDE TO PREVENT FLOW UNDER
