This project will be designed to meet the requirements of City of College Station. For location of the project site, refer to Exhibit A – Vicinity Map. 1.2 Primary Water Supply Brazos Valley Endodontic Associates water service is provided by an existing 6” line Corsair Drive. 2 Design Criteria 2.1 Pipe Selection 2.1.1 Pipe Materials Design Constraints: • Polyvinyl chloride pipe (PVC) shall be DR14 (meeting current AWWA C-900 standards) for sizes 4 through 12 inches; and DR 14 (meeting current AWWA C-905 standards) for sizes greater than 12 inches. • Type ‘K’ soft copper tubing shall be used for all service lines 2 inches and smaller. 2.1.2 Pipe Size Design Constraints: • The standard pipe sizes for water distribution mains are 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, and 18 inches in diameter. • Standard service lines within the right of way shall be 1, 1.5, or 2 inch. 2.2 Existing System Pressure Tests Flow Hydrant - See Exhibit C Flowrate: 1250 gpm Static Pressure: 80 psi Residual Pressure: 60 psi 2.3 Demand - Domestic Use Commercial Avg. Flow (Fixture Units): 6 gpm Peaking Factor: 4 Peak Flow: 24 gpm Brazos Valley Endodontic Associates March 2025 2 2.4 Maximum Lengths for Water Mains A 4-inch line may be allowed for permanent dead-end mains not exceeding 500 feet. A 6-inch main may be allowed up to a maximum of 1500 feet in length and must connect at each end to an 8 inch or larger main and shall have no more than 2 fire hydrants or flushing points. 3 Design 3.1 Fire Flows The minimum required fire flow for a Commercial Building IBC Type V-B of 3,620 sf is 1750 gallons per minute 3.2 Domestic Design Total Domestic Demand = 24 gpm The proposed 8” waterlines are in accordance with the Bryan/College Station Unified Design Guidelines – Domestic Water. This report provides the results of the water system analysis under the fire flow and domestic demand requirements, (1774 gpm) which produced the lowest pressure in the system. 3.3 Water System Summary As shown above the system exceeds the minimum required pressures of 35 psi for domestic flow and 20 psi for fire flow in both analyses. The maximum velocity of 11.76 fps is less than the required maximum of 12 fps. 3.4 Design Results Full design results shown in the following exhibits: Exhibit A – Vicinity Map Exhibit B – Water System Overall Layout Exhibit C – Flow Test Report Exhibit D – Pipe & Junction Analysis Summary – Domestic Flow Exhibit E – Pipe & Junction Analysis Summary – Fire Flow Summary of Calculations with Minimum Required Line Sizes Domestic Demand Pressure Min. 77.9 psi Velocity Max. 0.16 fps Fire Flow Demand FH Pressure Min. 29.4 psi Velocity Max. 11.76 fps Brazos Valley Endodontic Associates March 2025 3 4 Conclusion The proposed water lines and fire hydrants provide the required fire flow. The proposed 8” waterlines meet or exceed all of the design criteria for the Bryan/College Station Unified Design Guidelines – Domestic Water. They will provide adequate water pressure, flowrate and velocity for domestic demands and fire flow.
