It has" recently been. brought to our attention that the interior wall, connections to the exterior walls in a few homes currently in the framing stage, were not constructed according to. the notes included in our plans. Specifically -the . `wring' configuration that allowed significant loads to be transferred from the exterior walls.to the interior walls was altered and replaced with small pieces of 2x4 blocking nailed between. exterior.studs. i It is my opinion that these connections can be properly reinforced with the addition'of -angled brackets. Simpson A23, A35, or L70 angles may be installed at 16" O.C. on both sides of the interior walls, offset to ensure no splitting occurs. A total of (10) angles are needed at each wall intersection. The angles must be installed according to the manufacturer's instructions, using 10d nails in every hole. The walls critically in need of bracing for the 1690 and.1714 plans are indicated on the following pages. Where necessary all (10) angles may be placed on one side of the wall connection if the contractor is able to ensure that no splitting occurs. If additional studs are needed to give the angles a proper seat, they should be added: If additional studs may be added such that the original connection described in the windbrace plans is now possible, this is acceptable. The wall intersections do not need to be filled with solid blocking. Please note, only -the connection described in this letter have -been evaluated per -the scope of this letter. Please contact me if you have any questions. Mike Matustik, P.E.
