An existing 12" waterline is located along Castlegate Drive adjacent to the project site. The proposed waterline to supply the site will connect to an existing 8" waterline stub previously constructed with the 12" waterline. The water main will be constructed using 8" diameter pipe. The 8" waterline for this project will be constructed of DR-14, PVC pipe meeting the requirements of AWWA C-909 with mechanical joint fittings. 2.0 FIRE FLOW REQUIREMENTS The flow required for fire hydrant flow for the subdivision is 1,500 gallons per minute (gpm), which can be split between 2 adjacent fire hydrants. 3.0 WATERLINE SYSTEM ANALYSIS The waterline system was analyzed using the WaterCAD computer program developed by Haestad Methods, Inc. Exhibit "1" is a schematic of the proposed waterline, which shows the locations of the fire hydrants. A normal domestic use flow of 1.5 gpm was included in the analysis for each residential lot. This results in a normal demand of 36 gpm, which was included in the analysis. The residual pressure in the existing 12" waterline was determined by calculating the headloss at a flow of 1,536 gpm for the existing line. Exhibit "5" presents the results of a pressure/flow test from fire hydrants connected to the existing 12" waterline along Castlegate Drive. A static pressure of 90 psi and a residual pressure of 85 psi with the hydrant flow at 1,140 gpm were determined by College Station Public Utility personnel. The residual pressure of 81.3 psi at a flow of 1,536 gpm was calculated using the following equation: QR = QF (HR/1100.54 Where: QR = Q available @ desired residual pressure QF = Q during fire flow test HR = pressure drop to desired residual pressure HF = pressure drop during fire flow test This results in a residual pressure of 81.3 psi where the proposed waterline will connect to the 8" stub on the 12" waterline. The hydraulic grade was set at this pressure at the start of the proposed waterline, Junction R-1. The computer model was run with a fire flow of 750 gpm for each combination of 2 of the 3 fire hydrants proposed for this project. Exhibit "2" is a summary of the pipe system junction nodes for this scenario. The lowest residual pressure occurred in the system at Junction J-12. The pressure at this point is estimated by the model to be 66.9 psi, which exceeds the minimum of 20 psi required by the TCEQ regulations. Exhibits "3" & "4" are summaries of the pipe sections for the system Lmder this demand scenario. The maximum velocity for the 8" water mains is 9.80 feet per second, and occurs in Pipes P-1 and P-2. A separate analysis was run for the domestic use of 1.5 gpm per unit, and the minimum residual pressure was 72 psi, which exceeds the minimum pressure of 35 psi required by TCEQ. Minor losses in this system were not calculated, as they were assumed to be insignificant. 4.0 CONCLUSIONS The waterlines proposed for this development should adequately provide the fire flow required with acceptable values for headloss and velocity. This analysis was done assuming adequate residual pressure in the existing 12" water main, as determined by the flow test. SCHULTZ AL ,7-9-0+ 1.0 INTRODUCTION & DESCRIPTION The purpose of this report is to provide a description of the proposed waterlines to be constructed with the Castlegate Subdivision, Section 7, and to provide the results of the analysis of the waterlines under fire flow conditions. Exhibit "Y' presents the results of a pressure/flow test from fire hydrants connected to the existing 12" waterline along Castlegate Drive. A static pressure of 90 psi and a residual pressure of 85 psi with the hydrant flow at 1,140 gpm were determined by College Station Public Utility personnel. The residual pressure of 81.3 psi at a flow of 1,536 gpm was calculated using the following equation: QR = QF (HR/HF) 0.54 Where: QR = Q available @ desired residual pressure QF = Q during fire flow test HR = pressure drop to desired residual pressure HF = pressure drop during fire flow test This results in a residual pressure of 81.3 psi where the proposed waterline will connect to the 8" stub on the 12" waterline. Exhibits -3- & -4" are summaries of the pipe sections for the system under this demand scenario. The maximum velocity for the 8" water mains is 9.80 feet per second, and occurs III Pipes 11-1 and P-2.
