Construction type = VB- Sprinkled
Building Classification = Unprotected wood frame
Total Building Area (1 Floor) = 7,189 SF
Fire Flow Calculations per International Fire Code - Appendix B/NFPA
Table B105.1— Min. Required Fire Flow and Duration for Buildings
Bldg. Square Footage Fire Flow gpm Req'd Flow Duration
7,189 s.f. 2,250 gpm 2 HOURS
Due to the fact the building is sprinkled, the needed fire flow should be
reduced by 75% - 2,250 x .25 =563 gpm < required minimum of 1,000 gpm.
Fire Hydrant Credit Table
FIRE FLOW NUMBER AND DISTRIBUTION MAXIMUM
REQUIREMENTS OF FIRE HYDRANTS DISTANCE
(GPM) MIN. # Avg. Spacing FROM R -O -W
1750 or less 1 Hydrant 500 ft. 250 ft.
Conclusion:
One existing fire hydrant located on the southeast comer of the property will
provide the needed fire flow for the sprinkled existing building and addition.
In addition, another fire hydrant is located at the southwest comer of the
property. Please see attached site plan (Sheet C -2) for fire hydrant locations.
The design meets the intent of the referenced IFC/NFPA code, the distance
between the two considered fire hydrants is roughly 300 feet and the
maximum distance of the hydrants from existing paved streets is 10 feet.
Both fire hydrants are located within 200 feet of the existing building.
