Water System Report for Castle Rock Subdivision Phase 6 College Station, Texas March, 2010 Revised May 2010 Prepared By: SCHULTZ ENGINEERING, LLC. TBPE Firm Registration No. 12327 2730 Longmire, Suite A College Station, Texas 77845 979.764.3900 O F mo q, . i.. y %a¢ , r .' . JOSEPH P . SCHULTZ ; v:/:6,r, 8 6 5........ General Information Castle Rock Subdivision, Phase 6 Lots 35 -36, Block 1 and Lots 1 -31, Block 2 is located adjacent to the existing Phases 4 & 5. The extension of Castle Rock Parkway is part of Phase 6 and it extends this street 500 feet past its current end in Phase 2B. The water lines to serve these 33 residential lots will be 6" & 4" lines along Deep Stone Court, Rocky Oak Court and Rocky Briar Court that will be stubbed out from the 8" water line along Rocky Vista Drive that will w will constructed along Castle xt nded 516 feet. The waterline layouts are shown Parkway will be extended Exhibits Al and A2. Land Use: Single family residential Design Criteria/Analysis Fire Flow: 1,000 gpm for Single Family Residential Dometic Use 1.5 gpm per lot for Single Family Residential The proposed 4" 6" and 8" water lines are in accordance with the Revised Water System Report for the Castle Rock Subdivision prepared in July 2007. This report provides the results of the water system analysis under the fire flow and domestic demand requirements which produced the lowest pressure in the system. The scenario with the lowest pressure was with the fire flow of 2,500 gpm in the commercial area of the Subdivision. This scenario resulted in a residual pressure of 73 psi which is significantly higher than the 35 psi minimum residual pressure required. All scenarios using 1,000 gpm for the fire flow for the hydrants in the residential sections resulted in higher residual pressures. Additional analysis of Phase 6 of the Subdivision was performed for this report to verify that the previous analysis results could be confirmed. Attached is a field fire hydrant flow test, marked Exhibit B, performed by the City of College Station on July 2, 2008. The fire hydrant was located in Phase 2A a residual pressure of 94 psi. results of the test yielded a flow of 1,300 gp m at A KYPIPE computer model was developed for the proposed waterlines for the Castle Rock Subdivision, Phase 6. The model was run using a fire flow of 1,000 gpm for proposed Fire Hydrant 1 on Deep Stone Court. A maximum daily demand of 174 gpm was also used in the analysis for the domestic demand from Phase 5 and 6 of the Subdivision. The starting residual pressure was based on the fire hydrant flow test. The node and pipe locations are shown on Exhibit A. Location: General Note: Conclusion Exhibit C -2 is the KYPIPE output file with the domestic peak flow and the fire flow from each of the hydrants. All node pressures exceed 90 psi for this scenario which is greater than the 20 psi minimum required. All the pipe velocities are less than 12 fps for this scenario. The maximum velocity in any of the pipes is 11.6 fps. This velocity is in the 6" line proposed along Deep Stone Court to Fire Hydrant 1. Exhibit C -1 is the KYPIPE output file with only the domestic peak flow modeled. All node pressures exceed 99 psi for this scenario which is greater than the 35 psi minimum required. Exhibit C -3 is the KYPIPE output file for the scenario with the normal demand on the system and 1,000 gpm demand at Jjunction No. 20 located at the end of the proposed 8" waterline along Castle Rock Parkway. The junction and pipe locations are shown on Exhibit A2 for this waterline. All node pressures exceed 90 psi for this scenario. The maximum velocity in this 8" waterline is 7.5 fps. The proposed 8 ", 6" and 4" water lines meet or exceed all of the design criteria for the City of College Station. It will provide adequate water pressure, flowrate and velocity for both domestic and fire flow demands. 1 • g 0 0 6 c c 8 0 5 • • W D m • D 1 1 0 - 1 3 0 • g 0 • / ■ „ '1---- ,,..„...„,... ..., , ,, ,,,.. ,,,,,..,,,--,j 1 1 li , -NJ i 1/ 7..,,,,„ /1 Date Time Test completed by Witness Location Nozzle size Flow hydrant R -057 Pitot reading 60 G.P.M.
