The combination of driveway widths proposed for this home total in excess of thirty -eight feet. The maximum combined width for two residential drives at the property line is twenty -eight feet per Ordinance Chapter 3, Section 3H(6)(f). There is no provision within the ordinance for staff variance to this requirement. If the driveway widths at the property line can be reduced to the maximum combination allowed by Code, no further permitting is necessary and the drives will be inspected prior to overall project completion. Once the driveway leaves the street right of way, it can expand to any reasonable dimension as governed by zoning and building regulations. If you wish to seek a variance to this code section, the following Ordinance sections apply: "An appeal shall be made within thirty (30) days of the date of the notification of the decision by filing with the City Engineer a notice of appeal specifying the grounds thereof. The City Engineer shall forthwith transmit to the Project Review Committee all the papers constituting the record upon which the action appealed from was taken." Home of Texas A &M University "The Project Review Committee may authorize on appeal a variance to the Driveway Access Location and Design Ordinance when such variance will not be contrary to the public interest where, owing to unique and special conditions not normally found in like areas, a sfrict enforcement of the provisions of the ordinance by the City Engineer would result in an unnecessary hardship and so that the spirit of this ordinance shall be observed and substantial justice done."
