Item: Discussion and possible action on a resolution of the City of College Station,
Texas, determining a public necessity to acquire a fee simple interest in certain
property; giving notice of an official determination to acquire a portion of the
property for the Barron Road right -of -way project; and establishing procedures for
the acquisition of a fee simple interest in property.
Item Summary: The attached resolution identifies a parcel of property needed for
the Barron Road right -of -way project on the east side of Highway 6. Barron Road
right of way acquisition was part of the 1998 general obligation bond issue.
Item Background: Council approved a needs resolution on April 25, 2002 for
twenty parcels of property along Barron Road on the west side of Highway 6 for
the widening of Barron Road between Highway 6 and Wellborn Road (F.M. 2154).
Barron Road is a minor arterial in southern College Station. Barron Road connects
the frontage road of Highway 6 with FM 2154 (Wellborn Road). The City of College
Station standard right -of -way width for a minor arterial is ninety (90) feet. The
proposed right -of -way width is ninety (90) feet.
The proposed parcel provides a section of right of way on the east side of HWY 6.
This proposed right of way alignment is consistent with the Barron Road alignment
approved as part of a small area plan presented to Council on April 25, 2002.
Interest has been expressed to develop the tract containing the proposed right of
way. Staff feels that the City should pursue the acquisition of this portion of the
right of way before this development occurs. We can not require dedication of this
thoroughfare because the plat of this property predated the alignment adopted

with the revised thoroughfare plan.
Budgetary and Financial Summary: The budget for the Barron Road right -of-
way project is $316,000.00 in 1998 General Obligation Bond Funds.
Staff Recommendation: Staff recommends adoption of the Resolution.
Council Action Options:
1. Adopt the Resolution
2. Do not adopt the Resolution

determined and established to be just compensation therefore and to negotiate with
said owners on behalf of the City.
PART 7: That the Mayor after approval by City Council is hereby authorized to execute all
documents necessary to acquire a fee simple interest in the parcel needed for said
project, on behalf of the City of College Station.
PART 8: That the City Manager be and is hereby authorized to sell any such surplus
improvements, or order the demolition thereof, located on the real property acquired
