Attention: Mr. Kenn Walsh
Subject: Results of Limited Survey for Asbestos Containing Materials
ICU in the Center Building, Second Floor at the College Station Medical Center
Located at 1604 Rock Prairie Road in College Station, Texas
Loftin Environmental Services, Inc. Project Number 1900801
Dear Mr. Walsh,
Loftin Environmental Services, Inc. (LOFLIN) has completed a limited asbestos survey of the
second floor ICU in the center building of the College Station Medical Center at 1604 Rock Prairie
Road in College Station, Texas. The survey was to identify possible asbestos containing
materials used in the space and assess those which may become friable during building
renovation. This survey was performed by W. Joseph Loftin (DSHS Consultant #10-5140) on
January 23, 2008.
The unit was visually inspected to identify suspect asbestos containing materials. Suspect
materials identified and sampled included HVAC duct mastic (white), pipe insulation sealant
(white), HVAC mastic (green), exhaust ducting tape (white), sheet vinyl flooring, ceiling tile,
fireproofing, sink coating and wallboard joint compound. Representative samples of these
materials were collected and submitted to LOFLiN's Houston laboratory (NVLAP #2044, DSHS
Lab # 30-0031). Samples were analyzed using Polarized Light Microscopy coupled with
dispersion staining in accordance with the US EPA "Method for the Determination of Asbestos in
Bulk Samples" (EPA 600/R-93/116, July 1993).
Based upon laboratory analysis, two of the three samples of HVAC duct mastic (white) were
determined to be asbestos containing. This material is non -friable and, if not included in the
planned renovation, should not become friable during the renovation activities. This survey was
conducted in general accordance with the Texas Asbestos Health Protection Rules (TAHPR) and
the National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) for the areas being
renovated and/or demolished.
Loftin Environmental Services, Inc, appreciates this opportunity to provide these testing services.
Should you have any further questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely,
Loftin En vir ent ervic 1
