Ms Sherry Mashburn, City Secretary
City of College Station
P.O. Box 9960
College Station, TX 77842
Dear Ms Mashburn:
Aldi Inc. is considering a site in College Station for an ALDI store; a discount, limited assortment food
store operation. An ALDI food store is able to sell certain limited food items at discount prices because of
its merchandising methods, which limit its expenses and overhead. These methods benefit consumers
by providing them with quality food at lower prices. Consumers are well informed as to their price
savings as ALDI places price signs over each type of food item offered.
Therefore, before ALDI Inc. closes on a site or incurs any obligations or expenses regarding the opening
of a new store, we must have acknowledgement from a city official that College Station does not
currently have in effect or pending any law or ordinance that requires merchandise being sold in a
discount limited assortment food store to be individually stamped with the price, or that grocery items
be bagged. Such laws or ordinances would prevent ALDI from doing business.

Please indicate whether or not any local jurisdiction such as the Municipality, City or County imposes any
type of separate tax. This could include income based taxes, personal property taxes, gross receipts
taxes, special taxes, special sales taxes, employment taxes, etc. Please direct us to the appropriate
contact to gather more information regarding compliance with any such taxes.
Please sign this letter as acknowledgement that such a law or ordinance is not now in effect or pending
and return it to ALDI Inc. so that we may proceed with the opening and operation of our proposed store.
Secondly, identify any variations to the state's scanner accuracy law that may apply to businesses in
your Municipality. Thirdly, please send me a copy of College Station's signing ordinance or any other
information you may have regarding signing restrictions, such as maximum height allowed, maximum
square feet allowed, etc.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Sincerely,
