Matthew Hilgemeier - Votes to deny Variance request (704 Canterbury)

Dear Matthew,
Thanks for the notice about the Variance Request regarding proposed construction at 704 Canterbury Drive. Jeff
McDougall spoke with my wife about it, which we appreciate. And I think my wife also spoke with you or
someone else with the City about the project.
My wife and I discussed this at some length and feel that the long-standing rules regarding positions of homes and
other construction in this neighborhood are for the benefit of all. The proposed construction will present an non-
esthetic element to the view, especially for the immediate neighbors, and if built would set an undesirable
precedent for additional construction around the neighborhood. If everyone builds such structures, the quality of
this neighborhood would be very seriously degraded. We like trees, bushes and flowers, not building and roofs.
Thus, as noted in the attached, we voice our objection to the proposed Variance.
I stopped by my neighbors, the Liu's (706 Canterbury Dr.), and Steve said that did not have a copy of the "vote"
sheet provided by Jeff and Mary (McDougall), so he asked if he could sign mine, i.e., indicate his vote also is
to "Deny" the Variance request.
I am attaching scan of that "vote" sheet to this email. Can you present our votes, and if needed more information
from the sheet, at the meeting Tuesday night? I am very busy at this time of year and really don't have time to go
to the Zoning Board meeting Tuesday night, so will appreciate your representation of our preferences on this
matter.
Thanks,
David Stelly
