Emerald Forest Neighborhood Gateway Proposal June 20002 Emerald Forest Homeowners Association Neighborhood Gateway Proposal Prepared by Garry Gore, EFHA Grounds Committee Chairman June 1, 2002 Justification The Emerald Forest neighborhood gateway is over twenty years old. The lettering on the entry walls is brittle and is breaking. The original ornamental iron fencing in the stone walls had been damaged and broken and needs replacement. The neighborhood message board was removed last year due to environmental and insect damage over the years. Historically, the message board is one of the most effective methods of informing the homeowners. The landscape suffered a catastrophic loss of almost all plant material in August 2000, due to neglect by the landscape management company which was under contract at that time. Removal of most of the plant material has already occurred and a majority of neighborhood homeowners wish for the entry to be refurbished to improve the neighborhood's image. The gateway is the main entry to the neighborhood and a visual focal point for all business traffic travelling east on Emerald Parkway from the Highway 6 Bypass. Scope of Work The project includes bed renovations to the traffic island in Emerald Parkway at the Highway 6 Bypass. This is the same island in which new trees were replanted last winter at sole cost to the EFHA. The scope of work includes: replanting of the gateway landscaping which was lost in August 2000, replacing the brittle lettering on the entry walls, adding a new outdoor message board to replace the old one which was removed last year, new wrought iron fencing in the walls to replace the old iron fencing, and needed electrical and irrigation improvements. No major architectural changes are proposed. The planting design includes 13 pink crape myrtle trees donated to the neighborhood by the Brazos Valley Sports Foundation for participating in the 2000 Holiday Lights contest.
