Dear Ms. Hejl: Please find enclosed three copies of the permit for the above referenced project. The applicant is proposing a new sidewalk in the state R.O.W. with existing handicapped ramps. I have made the following comments to them on a previous report. "Please consider placing the new sidewalk approximately 10' closer to your property line, between the sanitary sewer and waterline. By putting more space between the Texas Avenue traffic and the pedestrian there will be an increase in safety from possible errant vehicles." "Please line up the handicap ramps, if possible. Unaligned handicap ramps should be avoided." At one point ADA allowed single handicapped ramps at intersection corners, facing kaddy-corner or diagonally out into the middle of the intersection. Research was then conducted that showed that the blind or those with limited vision or orientation were prone to wander out into the intersection. It was then dictated that single diagonally facing ramps were to be removed and replaced with two ramps on each side of the corner. This was my line of thought when I considered the unaligned ramps. Please return comments or two signed copies of the permit for our distribution at your earliest convenience If you have any questions feel free to contact me at 979-764-3570 VSincer y, Thomas V.
