SUBJECT: Satchel's Restaurant -Discussion and consideration of the
attached signage currently on the fagade located at 303 Boyette in
Northgate (02 -51)
The PRC held a meeting on Wednesday, March 27, 2002 to review the above -
mentioned project. Staff Planner Reeves stated Satchel's is requesting approval
of their attached signage on their building. Staff has done a review and it does
meet the City's attached signage requirements, but PRC approval is needed to
get the signs permitted. Commissioner Trapani confirms that the City is
recommending approval. Commissioner Happ stated that on the application it
shows a sign not shown in any of the pictures in the packet. Staff Planner
Reeves stated that sign is the directional sign PRC also needs to make a
decision on. Directional signs do meet the requirement but they do not need to
be permitted. Since it is going in Northgate, PRC does need to approve it.
Commissioner Hawthorne asked where they needed to be placed. Mr. Willis
stated that there are only two curb cuts there at the building. One is into a small
parking lot and the other is into parking area with just one handicap and another
parking space. Mr. Willis would like to place the directional signs at those two

curb cuts. They want the overflow to go into the parking lot across the street.
Commissioner Hawthorne asked about the parking requirements when Satchel's
was built. Staff Planner Reeves stated that Northgate does not have parking
requirements. Ms. Ruiz stated at the time the site was approved they were
allowed to have only the existing 7 spaces, as well as the lot down the street
where Shadow Canyon is located. The sign will be directed to the parking area
behind The Deluxe Burger. Commissioner Hawthorne asked if the signs were
made of wood. Mr. Willis stated that they will probably stay with the western
motif and stick to wood and put a polyurethane coat on them. Commissioner
Happ asked how the big can the sign be. Staff Planner Reeves stated that the
restriction is 3 square feet. Commissioner Hawthorne asked how far off the curb
will the signs be located. Staff Planner Reeves stated that the directional signs
have to beat least 4 feet off the curb. Mr. Willis stated that the sign will be on the
parking lot across from Satchels. Commissioner Happ had concerns about
directional signs and what exactly it would look like. Mr. Willis clarified that the
directional signs will say "Free Parking for Satchels ". Commissioner Hawthorne
made the motion to approve as presented, with the condition that the directional
signs match the same motif as the signage on the main building. Trapani second
and the motion passed 3 -0.
