Sulliv , ecretary Canyon Creek ers Association, Inc. P. O. Box - Texas 77844 Dear Mr. Sullivan: I have received your request for TxDOT to widen the shoulder to 8 feet at the entrance to the newly constructed Townhomes at Canyon Creek located on FM 2818. I have been in contact with the City of College Station on this matter and told them I would allow the widened shoulder placed by the developer with our written approval of the details. This widened shoulder will be part of the access driveway permit and will be built and maintained by the development. When the City of College Station receives and approves the drawings, they will forward for my approval. If you should have further questions, please contact me at (979)778 -6233. Box E -2 College Station, Texas 77844 January 7, 2003 Kathryn Hejl Texas Department of Transportation 2102 Taber Road Bryan, Tx 77803 Dear Ms. Heil: Construction at The Townhomes at Canyon Creek, located on FM 2818 south of Luther Drive, has recently been completed and will be fully occupied within the next month. We are requesting that TXDOT widen the shoulder 8 feet at the entrance of the development. Our major concern is the safety of our residents entering and exiting the property. As you know, FM 2818 is a major highway that is heavily traveled at high speeds, especially in the morning and evening hours. There has been one accident that has occurred as one of our residents was entering the property. By widening the shoulder an additional 8 feet, we feel that the addition would allow for safe traffic flow in and out of the property and ensure that future accidents do not occur. In addition to our safety concerns, Texas A &M University's Transportation Services has recently approved the plan for a bus stop to be placed at the entrance of the development. Rod Weiss, the director of Transportation Services, feels that the addition of the 8' shoulder would allow for safe transit for their vehicles. One of our newest homeowners is visually impaired and must rely on bus service to travel to and from campus each day. With a total of 240 residents, bus service is essential for students' accessibility to and from the university campus. Veronica Morgan of Mitchell and Morgan Engineering is preparing structural drawings to be used for your review. We would also like the opportunity to meet with on site to show you our concerns and the proposed modification. Please feel free to contact me at (409)771 -7795 with any questions or to schedule the meeting. We look forward to working with you on this issue. Very Truly Yours, William W. We had prepared a "gated entrance" and our client had a different idea in mind. They would like a gated entrance but want to minimize the drive width by not including medians as shown in the subdivision regulations. Attached is a Simple plan of what they would like. I think we would need to modify it slightly with radii but perhaps it could work. I guess my question is before we spend timg drawing up a plan I wanted to ask the question —Are the medians required for a gated entrance? Veronica -6 ( 11.E Zk ? ( p--
