Date: 9/18/01 4:00PM
Subject: Seventh-day Adventist Church Agenda Item
Dear Bridget:
I am requesting that the Conditional Use Permit Application of the
Seventh-day Adventist Church be removed from the agenda for the meeting on
Thursday, September 20.
While there has been no change in the use and level of use planned for the
site, it appears that the area of the building and parking for Phase II
needs to be revised. We may also wish to revise the location of the parking
for Phase I.
We plan to submit the revised information for either the October or November
meeting.
Please let me know if you need any additional information.
Sincerely,
David E. Claridge, Chair
Building Committee

Attention: Natalie Ruiz
Re: 1350 Earl Rudder Freeway South
Dear Ms. Ruiz,
We are currently constructing a residence at 1609 Leopard Court. Our property is to the
west of and adjacent to the above referenced lot, the future location of the Seventh Day
Adventist Church. We will therefore be observing this area on a continuous basis.
As we understand it, the Church project is to be constructed in at least three phases and
the first phase will be located on the portion of the property that is closest to the freeway
and furthest away from the residential area. We also understand that there will probably
be lengthy intervals between each phase. This will mean that much of the site could
remain undeveloped for some time. It is our opinion that an area maintained in a natural
condition would be a much more pleasing to view than crepe myrtles and bark mulch. It
would be a view that would vary with each season and an area that would allow the local
fauna to maintain a foothold.
We would like it known that, rather than an artificially constructed, landscaped buffer
zone between our home and the Church that would have to be regularly maintained and
kept alive with copious amounts of water, we would prefer an area that is allowed to
thrive in its naturally occurring state. That is, an area filled with native trees, shrubs and
grasslands that have evolved to survive in this particular climate and at this particular
location; a continuation, if you will, of Carter Park, which is located to the immediate
North of the upcoming project.
A year ago we gave serious consideration to the lots on Cougar Court because Carter
Park was directly behind them. We opted for a lot on Leopard only because it was more
heavily wooded. We designed and located our home to maintain as many of these trees
as possible. Now, if the Church is allowed to maintain an area in as close to its' natural
state as is possible, we will have the best of both worlds.
Sincerely
John & Alicia Gale ~U

Afternoon! I was looking at your site yesterday and met one of your future
neighbors. He commented that he had tried to get in touch with the church
to ask some questions, but that the phone number on your development sign
was incorrect. He asked that the City forward his information to you so
that you may call him. It's John Gale (Orlon Construction) at 775.3250
(office), 775.0029 (fax), or 218.2227 (mobile).
Thank you,

Re, Seventh Day Adventist Church
Dear Natalie:
I represent the Seventh Day Adventist Church. The conditional use permit for the Church is
currently on the regular agenda for the November 29, 2001, Pianning & Zoning Commission
meeting. We wish to have this item pulled from the agenda of the November 29, 2001,
meeting, and request that you re-notice and schedule for January 3, 2002. Please provide me
with the necessary prerequisites for this future meeting.
Additionally, we are requesting a meeting to try to resolve our buffer issue.
Thank you for your help and consideration.
Very truly yours,
ek,
Charles A. Ellison

I am requesting that the Conditional Use Permit Application of the Seventh-day Adventist
Church be removed from the agenda for the meeting on Thursday, September 20.
While there has been no change in the use and level of use planned for the site, it
appears that the area of the building and parking for Phase II needs to be revised. We
may also wish to revise the location of the parking for Phase I.
We plan to submit the revised information for either the October or November meeting.
Please let me know if you need any additional information.
;Sincerely,

Sincerely
John & Alicia Gale
