Zoning District: NG-1 Historic Northgate (IA3SeS C Location: 600 Church Avenue Applicant: Glenn Schroeder Item Summary: A 10 x 14 portable building for lawn maintenance equipment for the church. Item Background: November of 1995 Saint Mary's Catholic Center was issued a Conditional Use Permit that involved the demolition of the existing Student Center, and construction of a 20,040 square foot Student Center, a 7878 square foot Activity Center, and 1356 square foot Chapel. In January of 2001 St. Mary's Catholic Center proposed a 10 x 16 portable building to the NRB at 603 Church Avenue, which is the northwest corner of Church and Stasney, for the purpose of storing lawn and maintenance equipment. At that time the Northgate Review Board tabled the item because the screening of the proposed building was not acceptable. NRB member Benning made the motion to table the request to find out the costs of screening options with either brick wall, or masonry columns with wooden fence, and landscaping. Commissioner Happ seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The board encouraged the applicant to submit several different screening options to be considered at their next meeting. The church is now proposing a 10 x 14 portable building for lawn maintenance equipment storage at 600 Church Street, which is the southwest corner of Church and Stasney. A seven-foot screening fence was constructed recently. At this time the City does not require building permits for fences; however, since this is in NG-1, the fence design should have come before the NRB for approval. They are requesting to put the proposed building inside this fenced in area. Issues/items for Review: 1.
