STORM DRAINAGE REPORT
Bryan - College Station
Water Transfer Pump Station
INTRODUCTION:
This storm drainage report is intended to cover the necessary drainage infrastructure for the
projected improvements of the Bryan-College Station Water. Transfer Pump Station Site. The
parameters used for of the on-site area are incorporated to show how the final drainage design will
accomplish the desired drainage objectives according to the City of College Station's Drainage Policy
and Design Standards (DPDS.)
GENERAL LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION:
The project site is located in northern College Station and is bounded by the Bryan-College
Station Corporate Limit Line to the north, Tarrow Street to the east and southeast, and the Chimney
Hill Subdivision to the west and southwest. This drainage report takes into account the building of
the proposed transfer pump station building and improvements associated with its construction.
PRIMARY DRAINAGE BASIN DESCRIPTION:
The site drains into the proposed culverts as shown in Exhibit "B", then across Tarrow Street
and into Burton Creek, then to Carter's Creek and ultimately to the Navasota River. The site is
mostly open land and has a natural slope between one and two percent generally to the northeast.
FLOOD HAZARD INFORMATION:
This property is in a 100-year Flood Hazard Fringe Area as determined from the Federal
DRAINAGE REPORT PAGE 1
Bryan-College Station Water Transfer Pump-Station
College Station, Texas
Emergency Management Agency Flood Insurance Rate Maps 48041 CO142C for Brazos County,
Texas and Incorporated Areas effective July 2, 1992 (see Exhibit "A"). A portion of the site is also in
a Zone X hazard. Therefore, the finished floors of the proposed buildings for this site will be set
above the 100-year flood hazard area (E1= 278.50).
DRAINAGE DESIGN CRITERIA:
All drainage design is in accordance with the City DPDS. The design rainstorm is the 10 year
event. Flow calculations for all drainage areas are based on the Rational Method. Pipe sizing is in
accordance with Manning's Equation with an "n" of 0.014 per the DPDS.
Exhibit "C-1" shows the peak runoff calculations for the drainage areas shown on Exhibit "B".
Exhibit "C-2" shows the pipe sizing computations for the 100-year event. The proposed pipes are
designed to handle the 100-year flows. The friction slope of the proposed 48" RCP is 0.44%, and the
design slope of the pipe is 0.36%. This difference will create a small pond near the headwall during
the 100-year event. Most of the runoff during the larger events will overflow the ditch and discharge
directly into Burton Creek and never reach the proposed structures. Based on the calculations shown
in Exhibit "C-1 the 100-year event can be captured in the existing and proposed pipes and conveyed
to Burton Creek. Therefore, detention is not required.
CONCLUSION:
The 10-yeas post-development event is captured on site and conveyed in the proposed storm
drain system to an adequate outfall. Additionally, the 100-year event will be captured in the existing
and proposed pipes and conveyed to Burton Creek. The drainage design for this site meets the
requirements as stated in the City of College Station Drainage Policy and Design Standards.
