The City of College Station Public Utilities Department is in need of updating its one million-gallon water storage tower to a three million-gallon tower and requires an alternate site for this purpose. We would like to receive input on this project from the residents and businesses of the surrounding neighborhoods. This new tower will replace the current one million-gallon water tower located on Texas Avenue near the El Chico Restaurant. We have applied for a Conditional Use Permit to allow placement of a three million-gallon water tower on a parcel of land located generally next to the Vilcing Apartments between Holleman Drive and Park Place (see enclosed graphics). A recent engineering study indicated the need to provide an additional two million gallons of elevated water storage, and installing a three million-gallon water tower meets this need. Elevated water storage is required to maintain adequate water pressure throughout the water distribution system and provide for fire protection.
