Subject: December a request to extend 300 sq. ft deck to barber shop to east to eliminate access to
the rear of the building by pedestrians and eliminate past destructive activity.
This is in response to the memo received January 291b:
Shortly after turning in the application to alter the property at 215 University Drive, Bill Harper
informed me that he had already been approved to build a 6 ft iron fence across the front of his
property. My plan was only a 4 ft iron fence across the same area, and I felt this plan for the space
was similar, if not more attractive for the University Drive facade. Thus, we continued to make the
improvement to the property. The three nearest neighbors and numerous faculty/staff members have
commented on the attractiveness of the deck/fence and the improvement it has made on the
appearance of the block
Landscaping is part of the deck with the preservation of the 7 ft antique rose on the east-side and
numerous potted plants have been added
Unfortunately, I was not informed about the January 5`s meeting until 20 minutes after it had started
I was told that since I could not attend that I would be called if the committee had questions. I had
not heard from the committee for almost 2 months after the application had been turned in, and
assumed it had been approved
Please call with further questions at 260-0662.

the east to eliminate access to the rear of the building by pedestrians to eliminate
past destructive activity. (99-456)
The NRB subcommittee met on Wednesday, January 05, 2000, to review the above-mentioned
project. After some discussion about the deck extension and whether some landscaping should
be required, the NRB decided to request additional information from the applicant prior to
making a decision. The subcommittee concurred that not enough detailed information was
submitted in order to make a decision on the deck extension. The subcommittee requested
more information that includes a site plan showing the deck extension in relation to the
property lines and existing buildings or structures.

MEMORANDUM
February 10, 2000
TO: Rick Lemons, 211 University Drive, College Station, Texas, 7840
FROM: Bridgette George, Assistant Development Coordinat
SUBJECT: Zapato's Cantina Deck Extension
This is in response to your memo dated February 6, 2000. The Northgate Revitalization
Board Revitalization Subcommittee (NRB) meeting was held on January 5, 2000, to
review your request to extend the deck at Zapato's Cantina. At that meeting the
subcommittee determined that they did not have enough information to make a
decision on your request and informed staff to request additional detailed information
for a future meeting. Our office tried several times to fax a copy of the minutes to you,
but we were unsuccessful. After contacting you, we were informed that your fax and
computer were on the same phone line and that that was probably the problem. After
failing again to fax the minutes to you, we mailed a copy of the minutes requesting that
additional detailed information be submitted in order to schedule another NRB meeting.
Please submit a site plan that shows the deck extension in relation to the property lines
and existing buildings or structures. Also, if you could provide some pictures and/or
elevations of the cantina and deck, this would help the subcommittee in making their
determination. As soon as I receive these items, I will schedule another NRB meeting to
review your request.
