SUBJECT: BAmpie's Sandwich and Ice Cream - request to replace the face of an existing
freestanding sign, and to provide an awning on the existing mansard, and paint
a sign on the awning at an existing restaurant located at 110 Nagle Street. (Case
file no. 99-428)
The NRB Review Subcommittee held a meeting on Wednesday, July 21, 1999 to review the
above-mentioned item. Tarenjeet Singh provided a picture showing the Blimpie's sign and
colors they are proposing. Mr. Singh stated that the building would be painted a light gray,
with a light green awning. They would like to paint the Blimpie's sign on the awning on the
University side for visibility. The sign letters are 12" in height. The mansard will be the same
color as the building. He mentioned that the existing freestanding sign is currently lit and
they would like to replace the face.
NRB Member Anz voiced her concern about the freestanding sign being so close to the
awning, with its proposed sign.
The members concurred that they would like to see the existing awning replaced with one
similar to the one at Loupot's and suggested that Mr. Singh recommend to the owner to
examine the possibility of using grant funds to upgrade the fagade and mansard on the
building. Mr. Singh was given City contacts at Community Development for that information.
NRB Member Abbott motioned to approve the freestanding sign. Commissioner Warren
seconded and the motion passed 7-0.
Home of Texas A&M University
Commissioner Floyd motioned to deny the awning request without prejudice. This will allow
Mr. Singh time to examine the possibility of getting grant funding, and, if not available, to
revisit the subcommittee on the awning. Commissioner Horlen seconded and the motion
passed 7-0.
NRB Member Anz suggested to Mr. Singh to contact Lipman Music and encourage them to
inquire about the grant funding also, so that the entire area could be refurbished.
NRB Member Abbott stated that he would like for staff reports with recommendations to be
included on NRB projects, like they are for P&Z items. The Committee concurred.

MEMORANDUM

FROM: Bridgette George, Assistant Development Coordinato
SUBJECT: BAmpieIs Sandwich and Ice Cnearn Shop
The NRB had a meeting on July 21, 1999, to discuss a freestanding sign face replacement and
the addition of an awning with a sign for the above-mentioned item. The NRB approved the
face replacement of the existing freestanding sign, but denied the awning pending the
possibility of grant funding to replace the mansard and other fagade items.
Mr. Boyett, the owner of the property, contacted Randy Brumley with Community
Development to examine the possibility of receiving grant funds. Mr. Boyett was informed that
Blimpie's is in a non-target area for the Northgate funding and other city funding looks at code
issues.
Mr. Singh is requesting direction and approval to paint the mansard and add the awning with
the Blimpie's sign.

The NRB Review Subcommittee held a meeting on Wednesday, August 25, 1999 to review the
above-mentioned item. The NRB met previously and reviewed this item, but decided to wait
on approving the request until the applicant researched seeking grant funds to renovate more
of the building than he was planning with this request.
Sabine McCully informed the NRB that this building was out of the designated area for the
Northgate District grant funds. They were also informed that other available City funds are
geared towards code issues.
