SUBJECT: Advance Auto Parts - A proposal to change the blue stripe on the building to black and
to remove the top red stripe and increase the size of the bottom red stripe, on an
existing building located on at 204 Harvey Road in Wolf Pen Creek. (Case file #99-
426)
A Wolf Pen Creek Design Review Board meeting was held on Wednesday, August 25, 1999 to review
the above-mentioned item. The DRB reviewed this project previously and was told there was no
existing red on the building. The red that was previously approved for the sign was not based on the
building colors, but on the limited amount of red in the actual sign.
James Bell, Assistant Manager, stated that they are proposing to change the blue stripe to black, and to
remove the red stripe above the black stripe, and increase the width of the bottom red stripe by 34".
DRB Member Henryson informed Mr. Bell that they have previously denied bright red colors in the
WPC district. She asked if the window and door frames were going to be painted red as the picture
showed. He stated no and said that they were currently black and would remain that way.
Commissioner Parker stated that he preferred a satin finish to a gloss finish which would tone down
the colors.
Commissioner Mooney motioned to approve the proposal with the following conditions:
The red paint used for the bottom stripe will be a subdued shade of red, like the color
approved for the sign;
The red stripe above the black stripe will be eliminated;
The red stripe below the black stripe is not to exceed the existing width;
The paint used will be a satin or flat finish, not gloss, and samples for both the red and
black, with the actual finish, will be approved by staff prior to painting.
DRB Member Kelby seconded and the motion passed 5-0.

SUBJECT: Advance Auto Parts - A proposal for replacing the existing sign and repainting
the building, located at 204 Harvey Road, Wolf Pen Creek. (Case file 99-426)
A Wolf Pen Creek Design Review Board meeting was held on Wednesday, June 16, 1999, to
review the above-mentioned project. Ms. Potter displayed building elevations which showed
both the sign and painting proposals.
DRB Member Henryson stated that red was previously allowed because it was used only as
borders, not as the background, for the building and sign.
Some discussion took place on what the current colors of the building were. DRB Member
Trainor stated that the building was gray with a blue stripe across the top.
The Board members concurred that the gray and black colors, and, the white letters would be
okay. The discussed their concern about the bright red being proposed and asked for a deeper
red or other color be used. Ms. Potter will bring in darker red sample for staff to approve.
