Development Coordinator Sabine McCully, Senior Planner SUBJECT: Zapato's Cantina - proposed sign change for a new restaurant in an existing building located at 211 University Drive (previously Double Dave's Restaurant). An NRB meeting was held on Wednesday, March 31, 1999 to review the above-mentioned signage proposal. Rick Lemons stated that his original request was to replace the existing plastic Double Dave's sign with the same size sign only putting it in vertically, instead of horizontally. But since turning in the application, he's decided to leave it horizontal. He mentioned that he's painting the building tan, similar to the adjacent building. Mr. Lemons stated that he would like the sign to stay illuminated as it is now. The sign will be black and white. Julius Gribou stated the illuminated signs are being discouraged in the district, but he's has no objection to the sign being replaced. Elton Abbott encouraged Mr. Lemons to attach the sign flush with the building. Home of Texas A&M University Mr. Lemons stated that if he put the sign flush against the building above the awning, it would be difficult to see. Sabine McCully stated that Mr. Lemons could place pedestrian signs on the building below the awning. Ron Kaiser motioned for the sign to be attached to the building and not to exceed the roof line, with no internal illumination. The motion was seconded by James Massey and passed 6-0.
