HomeMy WebLinkAboutMiscellaneous.OUR SAVIOURS LUTHERAN CHURCH March 13, 1995 315 TAUBER STxEET - 846-501.1 COLLEGE STATION,-TEXAS 77840 Planning and Zoning Commission City of College Station 1101 South Texas Ave. College Station, TX 77840 C~~ ~,~~~,~ ~ ~~ ~~~ To the Planning and Zoning Commission: Our Saviour's Lutheran Church hereby requests a variance from the requirements of Ordinance 1961, Item K, "DRIVEWAY ACCESS LOCATION AND DESIGN POLICY," specifically item (2) (b), which does not permit backing maneuvers into the public street right-of--way. Our Saviour's is located in an area of limited parking so that the primary parking for vehicles on Sunday, is angle parking along our property on Tauber. Street, Cross Street and College Main Street. This parking is all partially on street right-of--way, but was constructed by the congregation and includes curb and gutter and sidewalks. All existing spaces are occupied on Sunday mornings from 8:30 AM until 11:45 AM. The proposed reconstruction of College Main by the City will, as proposed, eliminate seven (7) parking spaces along College Main. The loss of these spaces will create a parking hardship for the members because of limited parking facilities in the area. We have had no success in attempts to negotiate parking agreements with commercial property'owners across College Main Street from our property. There is 30 ft. between the street right-of-way and our building (see attached drawing). This is adequate space for us to construct head-in parking, and an access sidewalk, on our property, but will require backing maneuvers into the street, hence this request for a variance.' In support of this request: 1) The Church members need the parking.. 2) College Main traffic is light on Sundays. (At present, campus workers use these spaces during the week, but they park early and leave at mid-afternoon). 3) College Main is not a major access to the campus. 4) The North Gate Area is unique in that it has different traffic and parking problems from the rest of the community.
