ITEM: Public hearing and consideration of an ordinance amendment. to the Zoning Ordinance
Use District sections to provide for commercial telecommunications towers. (94-800)
ITEM SUMMARY: Recently, the City Staff has received several .requests for the location of
commercial telecommunications towers along Texas Avenue and Southwest Parkway. The zoning
districts involved did not list such land uses as permitted because 'there ;has not been a need to
provide for them in the past:
The ordinance :draft defines commercial telecommunications towers and. allows them with a
Conditional Use Permit in agricultural, commercial, ,and .light industrial areas and as permitted
uses in heavy industrial .areas. ' In zones other .than: heavy industrial, the Planning and Zoning
Commission will determine on a case by case basis if he tower proposed is compatible with
existing uses, and has the discretion to limit heights and require screening in some instances.
STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS: Staff recommends approval of .the. ordinance. as :drafted.
The Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously to recommend approval:
