RE: Site Plan Approval Submission
Dear Shirley:
Please find our 10 copies of our site plan for your 'approval process. We revised 'our plan
per, your comments, in all" 'areas that, didn't ,involve direct contact with a consulting
engineer, landscape architect or city official. Weare in the process, however, of making
those contacts to get that work started. For example, weare in the process of contracting
a landscape architect to document the existing trees and shrubs on the 21/2 acres. There
are several huge trees that we are going to save,' and' work, into '. our, point, count once they
are documented. Weare proceeding this way with the Fire,Electrical,GT., etc.. It is our
understanding to have these issues resolved by the time we submit for permit.
We appreciate your help through these matters. ,I hope Thursday evening flows smoothly
for us and we can keep moving through the permit process.
Sincerely,

Office' of Planning & Zoning
Pleaseaccept.the following comments in support ,of Texas A&M
University's Eta Upsilon Chapter of Sigma Chi Fraternity for the
approval of ,zoning and "site, planning for", the construction of' a
fraternity house on Fratemity Row in College. Station.
Impressive, convincing,arolemodel,mentor...these are only a few of
the words which I believe best describe the Sigma . Chi chapter at
TexasA&M.As Coordinator of Greek Affairs and advisor to the
Interfraternity Council, I can truthfully and witho'utreservationsay
that the Sigma Chi chapter at TexasA&M is currently one of the top
three chapters in the 26 member 'fraternity system at Texas A&M.
I can say this because of leadership provided to the Greek
community,leaders'hipprovidedtoother student organizations on
campus, community . and campus involvement, and most of 'all
because of their image within the Greek community, on campus, and
in the community. Without a doubt, Sigma Chi at Texas A&M
represents what a fraternity is suppose to be like in 1993 . Thus they
are, indeed, a role model and mentor for other chapters on campus.
I have had the opportunity to be involved with Sigma Chi for the
past three years with their Derby Days activities. I have been most
impres sed with their efforts , their professionalism, and their success
in raising considerable funds for worthwhile purpo~es. lean
truthfullysaythatwitho.utSigma<Chi'sinvolvement in the Big Event,
one of the largest service projects on any campus in the. United
States, the successful completion of the day's projects would not be
possible..
. . . a part of the Division of Student Services
Sigma Chi has just completed .key. leadership roles in the
Interfraternity Council at TexasA&M with <members serving as IFC
president, Chief Justice of the Judicial Board, and chair of GAMMA
(Greeks Advocating the MatureiManagementofAlcohol). With these
three top positions on','the IFC, individual Sigma Chi's, as well as the
whole chapter, will mentor the rest of the Greek community.
As.Sigma.Chimovesinto their new house on Fraternity Row , I
believe that you > will find that the chapter is also a leader:in risk
management in the Greek community atTexasA&M. TexasA&M's
risk management alcohol policy, which has: been in place ~oralmost
two years, does not "allow open parties atfraternityho~ses, the
purchase of bulk alcohol (i.e. kegs), but does require appropriate
security, designated drivers, etc.
Having been advisor to the Greek community atTexasA&M for the
past three years, I believe that I can verify that when ,Texas A&M's
Sigma.Chichapter recently said, "Looking back on the image that
fraternities once held on this: campus in particular, lean see how far
that we have come and lean safely say that Sigma Chi, through its
efforts, has made a difference." I, personally ,coul~ not say it any
better. Indeed, Sigma Chi has made a difference!
I look forward to Sigma Chi's continued leadership within the Texas
A&MUniversity.Greekcommunityand strongly recommend the
approval of their site plan for Fraternity Row. I know that you will
find them to be a good neighbor.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
#~
