PLANT MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS
1. Planting stock shall be true to name. Sizes specified on the drawinqs
will be the minimum size for each plant of the qiven specie when
installed and each plant shall be a full, dense speci.en, each subject
to approval by the owner's representative. Caliper lIleasurements shall
be taken 12" above the ground. Individual plant Inaterials shall be
well furnished, of the variety, flower color as stated, and well formed
sound, viqorous healthy plants, free of disease, insect pests and shall
have healthy, normal, and unbroken root systems.
2. All plants shall be placed 1n pits as detailed, centered, and set in
such depth that the finished grade level at the plant shall be the
same at which the plant was grown and as detailed. Each plant shall
be set upright and faced to give the best appearance or relationship
to adjacent plants or structures. No burlap shall be reMOved from
plant balls, or balls broken when removed from containers. All broken
or frayed roots shall be cut off cleanly.
). Prior to acceptance by the owner, the contractor shall be responsible
for all normal maintenance includinq: watering, weeding, fertilizing,
pruning, etc. At the time of final acceptance, all beds or lawns shall
be free of weeds, and all plants shall be in a healthy state of growth.
TOPSOIL SPECIFICATIOl.iS:
Topsoil shall be a oood quality topsoil representative of the best soils
found in the area and free of stones 1" diameter or larger, roots, stumps,
vegetation capable of reproduction or new growth, weedseed, trash, caliche,
and any other undesirable material and shall conform to the following:
a. texture - fine sandy loam or loam where 3vatlable
b. natural organic matter - minimum of 3.0\ by volume
c. salt content - less than 0.2\
d. free of herbicide, pesticide, etc. appllc~tions within a period of
five years prior to date of installation
e. all topsoil shall be approved by the owner's representative and shall
come from only one source
f. in areas where loam or sandy loam is not available, selected topsoil
shall be of the highest quality found .1n the area and meeting all other
specifications
Soil mix for plant wells shall be as follows:
(1) loam topsoils - 6 parts topsoil/2 parts fine qrain washed sandI
1 part Canadian spagnum peat moss
2) sandy loam topsoils - 6 parts topsoil/1 part Canadian 8pagnum peat

SPRINKLER IRRIGATION SPECIFICATIONS: -\
1. All pipe not labeled as to size on the plans will be )/4".
2. All 8prinkler irrigation equipment will be new equipment and will
conform to the latest cataloq and specifications of the respective
manufacturer. -
). All pipe will be rigid PVC solvent weld pipe and will be ~lass 200
or better. All fittin9s will be compatible with the pipe.
4. Connections to water supply and electrical supply: ,
The contractor shall be responsible for makin9 all connections to
utility lines as required on the drawin9s or as directed by the Owner.
Where' required for new service, the irrigation contractor will connect
the system to the water supply where desi9nated by the Owner's rep.
and will install an approved backflow prevention device In a box, sized
to the irrigation main shown on the drawings, And as required by codes.
All electrical runs between controllers and supply to be underqround.
5. All pipe will have a minimum cover of 12" and in no case shall piPe
be laid higher than the recognized freeze line for the area.
6. The pipe shall be snaked from aide to side of trench bottom to allow
for PVC's characteristic expansion and contraction of !" per"10. change
in temperature.
7. The contractor shall perform all excavation of every description and
of whatever substances encountered. All excavated' material not required
or suitable for backfill shall be removed from the project site by
the contractor.
8. Trenches shall be a" minimum of 4 inches in width for all pipe 2 inches
in diameter or less and the trench wall shall beag nearly vertical
as possible. The bottom of the trenches shall be uniformly qraded to
provide uniform bearing and support for the pipe. Trenches cut through
existiD9. pavements shall have clean, saw cut edges unless otherwise
required by the Owner's representative.
9. All existing utilities shall be protected from damage durinq construc-
tion, and if damaged, shall be replaced by the irrigation contractor
at his expense.
10. Excavations shall not be backfilled until the utility systems as
installed conform to the requirements specified. Backfill materials
shall be acc~ptable fill free of atones 1" in diameter or larger, roots
lw in diameter or greater, trash, and other debris. In rocky soils,
the pipe shall be completed eRlbedded in sand with a minimum cover of
1" all around. Backfillinq shall be completed in an appropriate manner
to achieve soil densities compatible to surrounding soils. In all lawn
or planting beds, the top 6" of trench fill will be approved topsoil.
Surface backfill of trenches through paved areas shall include base
and topping materials to match exlstin9 pavements. All patched pavements
will have clean, sawcut edges.
1,. After the pipe has been laid, each valved section shall be slowly filled
with water to existing pressure and checked for leaks. After essential
completiQn, the entire mains system will be subjected to a 72 hour
pressure test. All leaks and other problems noticed must be corrected
before the system will be accepted by the Owner.
1.2. All pipes under pavements to be placed in PVC sleeves sized
of 1" diameter greater than .the pipe required.
