Re: CASTLEGATE H SEC 204 (FP)—13-00900198
Dear Mr. Ferrer:
Attached are test results for the lime stabilized subgrade for a portion of W. S. Phillips Parkway in
Section 204 of the above referenced subdivision. The lime stabilized subgrade did not meet the pH
requirement of 12.4 as shown on report Al141070.0005. The Plasticity Index, PI, of the samples
was 18 or less for the samples taken at Stations 27+50, 30+50, and 33+50. Report .0007 shows the
thickness of the lime stabilized subgrade at these locations to be 1.25" to 2" greater than the
required thickness of 8". The additional thickness reduced the amount of lime in the soil thereby
also reducing the pH. Based on the thickness and PI of the lime stabilized subgrade and since
reinforced concrete pavement is being used for this street, it is my recommendation to accept the
lime stabilized subgrade at Stations 27+50, 30+50, and 33+50 with the condition that the subgrade
meet the required moisture and density.
The subgrade at Station 24+50 is being remixed and will be tested after the mixing to see if the pH
and PI meet the specifications.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call.
Very truly yours,
Schultz Engineering, LLC.

On December 23, 2014, a Terracon Consultants, Inc., representative was present at the above referenced project to obtain 4 samples of
lime -treated material and returned to the laboratory. The samples are being prepared for Plasticity Index, pH, and Optimum Moisture and
Density Relationship.
Results of the tests performed will be shown on Report Nos. A I141070.0005A and A 1141070.0005B.
A Terracon Consultants, Inc., representative also secured 4 samples of pulver-mixed, lime -treated soil for testing to determine the
gradation. The tests were performed on site in accordance with applicable ASTM procedures and the results are shown below.
