DRAINAGE COMPUTATIONS for Brazos Super Trac Phase I & II College Station, Brazos County, Texas *Jan., 2007 * SUMMARY Super "B" Phase I, 1.21 acres, is currently developed as an Exxon Gas Station and is located southwest of the intersection of FM 158 and State Hwy 30. Super "B" Phase II a 1.88 acre tract is currently undeveloped. The 1.88 acre tract is located directly south of Phase I, approximently 245 feet south of the intersection of FM 158 and State Hwy 30 on the west side of the right-of-way of Harvey Road (SH 30). Both tracts together are all of that 3.09 acre tract of land conveyed to Brazos Super Trac, Inc. in vol. 3644, pg. 256, deed recorded in Brazos County Deed Records. Said 3.09 acre tract being in the J.W. SCOTT SURVEY, A-49, and MARIA KEGANS SURVEY, A-28, College Station, Brazos County, Texas. Currently the stormwater run-off from the 1.21 acre d itigated through a ? detention pond constructed on the adjacent acre proper 1 acre development surfaced drained into a grated junction x, through a 18" di r-RC pipe then on to surface l> drain into the detention pond. The mitig ted storm wa er-run-off leaving the detention pond is then dispersed or "fanned-out" to 64 feet 1me it reaches the nighboring property. See Topographic Survey. Detention ponds are typically designed to release the post developed run-off at a rate that is equal to the run-off rate in the predeveloped condition. Assuming this is the case, the run-off rates for the 1.21 acre tract in the predeveloped state was calculated for the 2, 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100-year storm events as 3.06 ft3 /s, 3.72 ft3 /s, 4.18 ft3 / s, 4.77 ft3/s, 5.40 ft3/s, and 5.63 ft3 /s, respectfully. These are the run-off rates that are being "fanned-out" over 64 feet as previously mentioned. It is proposed to relocate the Phase I detention pond to the west property line of the 1.88 acre tract. A storm water detention facility was designed to accept run-off from the total 3.01 acre tract and 0.1 acre of a joint access easement tributary that passes through the proposed 2.50 acre site development. The total tributary of water flowing through the 2.50 acre development site is 4.20 acres. The 2.50 acre development site has 0.00 acres that are allowed to "free flow". Computations presented on Page 2 present the estimated pre-development peak discharge rates generated by the 2, 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100-year storm events. The pre-development run-off coefficient was assumed to be 0.35. The post development weighted run-off coefficient was assumed to be 0.43 for the 5.11 acre tributary. Post- development hydrographs calculated on page 2 assume no detention to facilitate direct comparison in the pre-and post-development conditions. Page 3 calculates peak discharge rates for "free-flow" from the project site. The anticipated "free-flow" is 0.00 acres and having a weighted run-off coefficient of 0.00. Page 4 computes peak discharge rates for the storm water that is directed to the proposed detention pond. Pages 5-12 present tabulations for the predevelopment, post-development with no detention, "free-flow" and flow to detention pond hydrographs respectively. Pages 13-15 are hydrographs for the pre-development, post- development with no detention, "free-flow" and flow to detention pond hydrographs respectively. A minimum time of concentration (T/c) of 10 minutes is taken because it is greater than the actual T/c computed as 6.20 minutes. The calculations fort/care on Page 1 and Appendix A shows the slopes and distances taken to compute t/ c as well as the tributary areas. Having derived the Preliminary volume requirements as presented on page 2 and "allowable peak" discharge rate as present on page 1 it is now possible to design the final detention facility and outlet control structure. Page 16 presents a tabulation and depth verses volume graph for the detention facility as proposed. The top of Berm is at elevation 318.00. In the 25-year strom event the elevation in the pond is 317 .08 thus leaving 0.92 foot of "free-board". Page 17 presents a tabulation and rating curve for the proposed outlet control structure. A circular pipe culvert was chosen due to the discharge ratio characteristics associated with the anticipated headwater depth. An ultimate storage depth of 3.5 is available due to the physical geometry of the pond. The pipe diameter of 18 inches was selected. This value was determined from the following equation for headwater depth (in feet), H=[[ (2.5204 (1 +K) )/D4] (466.18n2L (l+K)) /D 16/3]] x (D/10) 2. "K" is the entrance loss coefficient (K=0.50 for this case). "D" is the diameter of the pipe in feet. "L" is the length of culvert in feet. "Q" is the design discharge rate in cubic feet per second. "n" is Manning's roughness coefficient (n=0.013 for RCP pipe), and "H" is the headwater depth in feet which ranges from 0.00 ft. to a maximum of 2.50 ft. Page 18 presents a tabulation of the relationship between discharge from the detention and the dimensionless quantity 2S/t-O. Also included is the Storage Indication Curve for the proposed detention facility based on the aforementioned physical characteristics of the detention pond, storage volume, inflow hydrographs, and rating curve for the outlet structure. The storage indication curve as shown on page 18 is a graphical solution to the equation presented as follows: 2s1 (II+ 12) + (----------- dt 2s2 -0 1) = (----------- dt Pages 20-22, 23-25, 26-28, 29-31, 32-34, and 35-37 present simulations for the 2 , 5 , 10, 25, 50 and 100-year storm events. The first and second pages of each storm frequency simulation represent the tabulated data for the storm event. The third page of each storm simulation represents the pre-development hydrograph, the post-development hydrograph (with no detention), and the post development "free-flow" hydrograph for each storm event. Pages 37 -42 provide total inflow/outflow hydrographs for the 2, 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100-year pre-development and post-development storm events. It can be determined from these same hydrographs that the post-development peak discharge rates have been significantly reduced from those peak pre-development discharge rates due to the incorporation of the proposed detention facility.
