The International Fire Code has two categories for Type III construction (Illa and Illb). Fire flow requirements for the two types are as follows: Construction Type ma Illb Building Size (sf) 0-12,700 0-5,900 Required Fire Flow (gpm) 1,500 1,500 While it is not clear which construction type is used for the Popeye's Restaurant, the required flow for a 2,100 sf building is 1,500 gpm under either scenario. Accompanying this letter are two Flow Test Reports prepared by the City of College Station's Public Utilities Department. These two tests were taken on the hydrants closest to the proposed location of the restaurant. Both hydrants are capable of flowing 1,525 gpm while maintaining a residual system pressure in excess of 100 psi. We therefore conclude that the existing water system is easily capable of providing the required fire flow for this building. As always, if you have any questions regarding our conclusions, please contact me at your convenience.
