Case File#07-00500081
Mr. Schubert:
Regarding the list of items I received from you, please note the following:
1] Attached is a revised drawing of the location of the water main in relation to the PIP. Field
verification of the location places the main closer to the structure, but still not under it.
2] Gary Doucette of All Phase Construction(820-1870) is performing the construction.
3] Relocation costs are minimal. I estimate labor and materials to move the structure at $275.
4] Cash to cover removal costs: I await your determination of what this amount will be. I'll
be out of town the rest of the week, but will be able to have a check late next week.
Thank you for your time in considering this PIP application.

SUBJECT: DOUX CHENE BUS STOP SHELTERS (PIP)
Staff reviewed the revisions for the above-referenced private improvement in a public right-of-
way (PIP) application as requested. The following is a list of items that need to be submitted
prior to approval:
1. Please submit the check for $275.
2. The utility department is not comfortable with the proximity of this structure to the water
main. The proposed location would make it extremely difficult to do any maintenance on
that portion of the water main. Would it be possible to cantilever the structure, as to
avoid the columns closest to the water main?

Glenn,
Sorry for the delayed response. Please find the below response from the utilities department and attached suggested adjustments
made in red:
Utilities Response:
It is necessary to retain clear area on both sides of buried water and wastewater lines for maintenance and operations purposes.
This clear area is to allow for equipment, tools, safety issues, etc. We are willing to sign the permit to allow the canopy of the bus
stop to encroach into this area. Please adjust your the design of the bus stop to accommodate.
I apologize for not being more specific in the required changes in my original comments. Please let me know if you have any
additional questions.

While I'm not an engineer, it seems to me that putting the full weight
of the canopy onto one vertical support column offset that far from the
center will make the top-heavy structure prone to lean.
Attached is my proposed redesign which should stabilize the structure
while giving 48" clearance from the main. The post closest to the main
would support the weight of the canopy while the second post would
provide counterweight to keep the structure from pulling towards the
canopy load.
Thanks for your consideration. Hopefully this revision will meet the
utilities department's need for clearance while allowing for a stable
structure design.

Glenn

Glenn,
I have attached the utility department's latest revision to the bus stop design. Utilities is trying to give you some suggestions of
options that may work for both parties. Ultimately since this bus stop is so close to a water main it is their call as far as allowing
this type of encroachment.
Sorry for the continued confusion on this permit. Let me know if you have any questions. The contact in the utilities department is
Spencer Thompson(764-3656). I probably should have put you in touch with utilities in the first place.
Thanks-Josh Norton

Glenn,
I just got word from Spencer that the revised design that you faxed over is sufficient. Please submit the latest set of plan and
profile detail for the bus stop and the check as previously requested. If you e-mail me the plans, I can prepare the permit. I will call
you when the permit is ready and you can come by to submit the check and pick up the permit.
