FIRE STATION # 3 LANDSCAPE & IRRIGATION COMMENTS
MAY 24,2006
FROM PETE VANECEK & PARKS FORESTRY/IRRIGATION
LANDSCAPE
1.Draw plan at 1'=10' to make it easier to read and see plants, etc.
2.Delete Euonymous alatus, zone 4 plant to Dwarf yaupon or Nandina compacta if color
is desired .Euonymous shrubs have problems here.See picture on sheet. And it is
deciduous
3.Tree detail, top of root flare needs to be above exist.grade 2"
4.Please specify an actual container size vs.tree caliper only....the City does not want
Balled and burlapped trees installed. Say 30 gal.,45 gal.,etc.depending on caliper size
5.Tree detail,specify a 3" thickness of mulch,same for shrubs....2" or 3"
6.Indian hawthorn,what variety,pink,white,Clara,Springtime,etc?
7.Sophora affinis„what source available for 2” caliper for this native tree?
Availability could be a problem for 36 of these..Sophora secundiflora is the Texas
Mountain Laurel, small evergreen tree,,,a lot more available but probably not in a 2"
caliper.Natives are good IF available.
8.Specify an exact or specific variety of dwf.crepe myrtles..Low Flame or Victor is a
good dwf.red that stays about 3'tall if that is desired.
9.Use same symbol and code for same plant
10.Leave all tags on plants and trees after installation
IRRIGATION
1.PLEASE SHOW LINE SIZES..will be helpful for contractor and maint, personnel
2.4"meter seems way too large....2" should suffice, same for gate valve
3.Controller,specify ESP-MC Plus,20 stations,Hybrid type or a model number to be sure
contractor installs correct one
4.Drip tubing design needs to be completed or use the drip tubing with built in emitters
Make sure shrubs are separate from trees by zone or valves.
(This wasn't done at Fire station#5)
5.Extra wires needed at each furthest valve, north and south, 2 extra red and a white at
each one.
6.Specify if pop up spray heads are 3",4" or 6"pop up.
7.Where is drip valve and equip. for the smaller drip zone west of main drive and at
corner bed of bldg.(SW corner) ?
8.Specify a nozzle size or number for rotaries....#1 for quarters,# 3 for halves,# 6 for
fulls,etc.
9.A lot fewer rotary heads could be used if spaced at 30-35' o.c.vs 18-20' o.c.
For examples, left long lawn area that has 3 rows at 18' spacing could be 2 rows at 35'
spacing. Another example is the northeast corner lawn area....has pop up sprays..rotaries
could be used at 30-35' spacing vs.pop up sprays at 15' spacing. And the front lawn area
between street and driveway could be rotaries at 30-35' spacing
10.Tree irrigation....bubblers on a separate zone would be good or separate the drip zone
totally from the shrubs...
11.Place all wire splices in valve boxes and use water proof connectors
12.Show valve locations more clearly
13.Are swing joints with pressure regulators necessary.? How much more do these cost?
14.Drip sections should be separate for trees and shrubs
15.Where possible all irrigation valves should be outside of beds
16.As built plans will be needed for the drip zones
17.Sleeves should be 4" diameter and noted on plan
18.Irrigation plan could be at 1"=10' also to make it easier to read
