Case #07-00500307 (JS) Location: 2201 Raintree Drive, entrance to Raintree Subdivision Applicant: Raintree Neighborhood Association; Henry Wittner, President Item Summary: The item is for consideration of a Gateway Grant Funding application for the Raintree Neighborhood Association. The Association is proposing a subdivision sign at the entrance to the neighborhood along the south side of Raintree Drive (see location map). In order to obtain approval, the applicant has submitted a Sign Permit application and a Private Improvement in Public ROW Permit (PIP) application since the proposed location is within Raintree Drive ROW. Each of the applications has been reviewed by Staff and meet applicable requirements. The applicant will seek to have the permits issued if this item is approved. Specifically, the proposed sign is approximately 4-% feet tall and 20 feet wide. The sign consists of a limestone façade and split face concrete block caps. The sign contains two cast bronze elements, the subdivision name and a sculptured tree, that are mounted on a dark brown cylex material. The cost estimate provided by the applicant for the sign is $15,131. Items to be reviewed based on the following criteria: 1. Gateway developments shall have good scale and be in harmonious conformance with the neighborhood. 2. Materials shall be selected for harmony of the neighborhood. 3. Materials shall be selected for suitability to the gateway developments and the design in which they are used and shall be architecturally harmonious with the neighborhood. 4. Materials shall be of durable quality. 5. Gateway developments shall have good proportions and relationships to their surroundings. 6. Colors shall be harmonious with the neighborhood and shall use only compatible accents. 7. Plant material shall be selected for interest in its structure, texture, and color, and for its ultimate growth. Plants that are indigenous to the area and others that will be hardy, harmonious to the design, and of good appearance shall be used. 8. Gateway developments shall not impede traffic, including pedestrian and bicycle traffic. Attachments: 1. Application 2. Location Map 3. Sign Details 4. Case #07-00500307 (JS) Jason Schubert, Staff Planner, presented the item explaining the applicant is proposing a subdivision sign at the entrance to the neighborhood along the southside of Raintree Drive. He answered questions in general from the Board Members. Henry Wittner, President of the Raintree Neighborhood Association and David Wood of the City of College Station Parks Department answered questions in general from the Board Members. Chairman Nichols expressed his praise to see that the Raintree Subdivision is getting a design feature constructed. Nancy Sawtelle motioned to approve the material and design of the Raintree Subdivision sign at the entrance of the neighborhood. Alan King seconded the motion; motion passed (4-0).
